Former world champion Ivan Calderon (35-2, 6KOs) is waiting for a deal to get worked out for a 2012 title shot. Calderon is going for a shot at the World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimumweight champion Moises Fuentes (14-1) of Mexico. Calderon may appear on a March card in Puetro Rico which features the featherweight rematch between Juan Manuel Lopez and Orlando Salido. In the fight with Giovani Segura, Calderon suffered an eye injury after received an accidental poke. He had surgery to correct and eye injury.
"We are talking about Moses Fuentes, who is the champion at 105 pounds, for March and April," Calderon to INS. "It's better to earn more money, because if I fight on the undercard against Salido-Juanma then the money would be less because you have to divide everything [with other fights on the card]. We have no problems waiting, because that way it gives me more time to recover from the operation on my left eye, which I had on November 16."
