GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO - Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon was rather light this afternoon when he weighed in at 109 ½ pounds with just over a week for their clash against the champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA ), Giovanni Segura, on the 28th of August on the card called "Unification", to be held at the coliseum Mario "Quijote" Morales in a presentation by PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) to be transmitted by "Pay Per View."
Calderon (34-0-1 and six KOs), junior flyweight champ of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), had a maximum of 113.4 pounds (5% above the 108) required by the Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico (CBPPR), and came at just a little more than a pound over the limit.
"Today we came in at 109 ½ because we were at 108 and then I drank water and ate some fruit and that's why I went up to 109 ½. Today we took care of the weight and I am happy knowing that I will not have any problems with weight. Now I'm waiting for the fight and hope that my opponent is here, "Calderon said at the Sports Museum of Puerto Rico in Guaynabo.
Segura (24-1, 20 KOs) was expected to reach Puerto Rico last night, but is set to arrive on the island on Sunday morning with his whole team. The Aztec fighter was weighed in Los Angeles and reportedly came in at 113 lbs.
