Los Angeles, California - At the Staples Center, the non-televised results saw Golden Boy Promotions spotlighting two of their top prospects as a historic night of boxing began.
Non-Televised Results
First up is Super Lightweight prospect Ronny Rios out of Santa Ane Calif against the tough Guadalupe DeLeon who hails from Weslaco Texas. DeLeon should be familiar to Golden Boy putting a loss on Derrick Wilson and giving prospect Charles Huerta all he could handle. While DeLeon is a game fighter you can clearly see the talent differential early on as Rios peppers DeLeon with a multitude of jabs and combos. Things heat up considerably with Rios landing cleaner but DeLaon willing to give back and at times catching Rios with clean effective punches. While this is an entertaining scrap with both seem willing to unleash their arsenal with Rios giving the better of the exchanges for the most part. By the 5th Rios finally started backing DeLeon up with the sharper cleaner punches but not without taking a few in the process. After 6 tough rounds between the two, Rios scores a unanimous decision by scores 59-55 and 58-56 twice to improve to 11-0 (5 KOs) while DeLeon drops to 8-11 (4 KOs)
Next up is fellow Golden Boy Junior Welterweight prospect Carlos Molina out of Norwalk Calif, pitted against Humberto Tapia out of Tjiuana Mex. Molina's speed seems to be the telling factor as he is simply out quicking Tapia to the punch and moving out before Tapia can get anything off. Good exchanges from both sides frame both the 4th and 5th rounds as Molina appears to be tiring allowing Tapia to lay on him and attack the body. This has turned into another good fight as while Molina is clearly the quicker of the two he is letting Tapia get the better of him on the inside. The last round saw both guys throwing everything they had in the book with Molina peppering Tapia from the outside but paying for it against the ropes. After 8 entertaining rounds Molina stays undfeated at 12-0 (6 KOs) with socres of 79-73 and 78-74 twice. Tapia drops to 15-13-1 (8 KOs)
The final non-television fight is a Junior Middleweight fight between Zanfer prospect Rodrigo Garcia out of Santa Ana Ca and Taronze Washington from Dallas Tx. From the outset it was clear Washington did not really want to engage in action as he decided to stay on the outside and try to outbox the tough hard punching Garcia. Garcia, showing a strong jab and a willingness to throw in combo takes a unanimous decision to stay unbeaten at 7-0 (5 KOs) whilte Washington drops to 14-13 (7 KOs)
