Ryan Garcia’s days of making 135 pounds are long gone. Forget about his decision to drop back down in weight to face Gervonta Davis at 136 pounds recently. From here on out, Garcia will officially campaign in the super lightweight division.

Declaration aside, there are a number of 135 pounders who believe that they can entice the extremely popular fighter to go back on his words. One of them is Isaac Cruz.

Considering his current position, Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KOs) is very much a wanted man. In December of 2021, the Mexican native gave Gervonta Davis all he could handle. And while he came up short, his stock rose to the Heavens. Fights against Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, and Frank Martin are all strong possibilities. However, in terms of getting a bang for your buck, Cruz believes that a showdown against Garcia would give fans just that.

“I think a fight against Ryan Garcia would be an entertaining fight,” Cruz told BoxingScene.com.

Fighting Garcia would give Cruz more than just a fight of the year nominee, it would also fatten his wallet considerably. Still, Cruz doesn’t want to get ahead of himself.

On July 29th, Cruz and Giovanni Cabrera will duke it out on the dance floor on the Showtime pay-per-view undercard of Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford. Cruz isn’t oblivious to what’s on the line. As long as everything goes according to plan, the 25-year-old could be given his rematch against Davis, something he’s been waiting on for nearly two years. If part two doesn’t happen, Cruz would love to square off against Garcia.

Ultimately, Cabrera stands in the way of Cruz’s goals. So while he would love to expound upon why he deserves a rematch with Davis and why he should be facing Garcia next, Cruz will refrain from those talks until after July 29th.

“I don’t have it in my immediate horizon right now. I have to focus on July 29th.”
