Icelandic heavyweight Gunnar Kolbeinn Kristinsson, 17-0, has revealed on social media that he has signed a contract for "a title fight" in Germany in May against an undefeated opponent.
Kristinsson, a 36-year-old who is the only male professional boxer from Iceland, said more details would be forthcoming.
Valgerdur Gudsteinsdottir is the only female boxer from Iceland, where professional boxing is prohibited, so both are fighting with a Swedish license.
Kristinsson has been a pro since 2014 and has fought in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Austria and the U.S., where he is signed with Salita Promotions. He has spent a long time training under SugarHill Steward in the U.S., where he sparred Tyson Fury, and also on the island of Aaland as part of Robert Helenius' team.
But it's been a long time between fights, and after 11 years as a pro Kristinsson is still relatively untested.
