The IBF has given junior flyweight champion Ulises Solis a January 25 deadline for defense of his title against Filipino mandatory challenger Bert Batawang because of an injury that forced two postponements of his title defense.
IBF Championship Chairman Lindsey Tucker Jr in a letter to Top Rank said the IBF had received a letter from Dr. Fernando Shoji in which he stated that Solis "suffers from Bursitis and Tendonitis for which he will have to undergo physical therapy and rehabilitation for 20 days."
Tucker said Dr. Soji also stated that it is "necessary for Solis to have an MRI and have a follow up visit for three weeks for re-evaluation."
The IBF, noting the mandatory title defense was due on October 25, 2007 said Solis has 90 days or until January 25, 2008 "to complete his mandatory." Tucker also asked Top Rank to notify the IBF when Solis is able to start training so that the IBF mandatory can be completed on or before January 25, 2008.
