On Saturday night at Campo Futbol Colosio in Quintana Roo, Mexico, former champion Humberto Soto (57-7-2, 34KOs) knocked out Adailton De Jesus (29-7) in the fourth round. As previously noted, Soto picked up his fourth win of 2011, but the competition has been less than stellar.
Now under the promotional of Golden Boy Promotions, Soto made it known to local reporters that he wants a major fight in the first quarter of 2012. Two of the names he mentioned were Marco Maidana, the WBA's regular champion at 140-pounds, and IBF/WBA Super junior welterweight champion Amir Khan.
Khan has a defense scheduled on December 10 against mandatory challenger Lamont Peterson. Unless WBO champion Timothy Bradley comes around, Khan is moving up to the welterweight division and won't stick around for Soto. Maidana is currently available and he's willing to fight Soto, but it's up to the Mexican fighter to make it happen. Soto reportedly rejected an offer to fight Maidana in August, when Robert Guerrero injured his shoulder and Soto was being considered as late-replacement.
