According to reports in Mexico, don't be surprised if Humberto Soto will attend, and scout, the February 6 clash between WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero and mandatory/interm champion Antonio DeMarco, taking place in Mexico. Soto, the current WBC super featherweight champion, made his move to the lightweight division last Saturday in Mexico, winning a decision over former champion Jesus Chavez.

He would like to fight WBA/WBO champion Juan Manuel Marquez but the chances of the fight taking place may not be likely. Marquez is slated to return to action on the tentative date of May 1 in Las Vegas. The WBO just ordered Marquez to fight interim-champion Michael Katsidis. If Soto is unable to get Marquez, he wants to fight Valero. Top Rank promotes both fighters and had planned to place the fight on the Pacquiao-Cotto undercard. Valero's visa issues prevented him from entering the country and the fight fell apart. Soto would take the fight in Mexico or in Texas, the only American state where Valero is licensed to fight.

"I'm at a good point in my career and I'll look to win my third world championship," Soto said. "In 2010, I'm going to look for my a title in my third weight division so I can get the recognition I deserve as a champion."
