At the Coliseo Centenario in Torreón, Mexico, Humberto Soto (45-7-2, 29 KOs) captured the vacant WBC super featherweight title with a tenth-round technical knockout over Gamaliel Diaz (23-8-2).
Soto punished Diaz during the contest, knocking him down in the first round and battering him in every round after. DIaz tried to survive as he was being beaten up during the tenth, and lost two-points to excessive holding when he wouldn't let go per referee Laurence Cole's instructions.
Diaz's corner saw enough after ten and refused to send him out for the eleventh. Diaz may consider hanging them up, he lost two of his last three and three of his last six. The loss was the fifth time that he was stopped. Soto gets his day in the sun after being controversially disqualified against Francisco Lorenzo on June 28.
