Saturday night in Los Mochis, Humberto "Zorrita" Soto retained his WBC lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Ricardo Dominguez. Soto has won titles at featherweight, super featherweight and now owns the lightweight titles.
He wants to make history by becoming the first Mexican fighter to win four major titles in four weight divisions. He plans to make a few more defenses at lightweight and then move to 140-pounds. Once he captures a title at junior welterweight and makes at least one or two defenses, Soto will retire from the ring.
Most of the money is at 140-pounds with Amir Khan, Tim Bradley, Devon Alexander, Marcos Maidana, Victor Ortiz, Juan Manuel Marquez and possibly Ricky Hatton in the mix.
"Right now my plan is to make a couple of defenses at lightweight, and then look for the junior welterweight championship. If I were to win that crown, it would be the fourth in my career in a different weight, and that would be something that no Mexican has ever done. My goal is to win a title at that weight, make one or two defenses, and then retire so I can devote my time to my family," Soto told Ernesto Castellanos G.
