In what turned out to be an all-out war, former WBC world champion Humberto "Zorrita" Soto (68-9-2, 37 KOs) had a quiet return as he won a unanimous decision over Sinaloa's Edgar "Chananón" Puerta (25-10-1, 19 KOs), which headlined a card last Friday in the Plaza Old Town of Ensenada, Baja California.
After midnight, Soto starred and won one of the most spectacular fights in memory of Ensenada, in which despite suffering a cut on the eyebrow from the second round forward, Edgar "Chananon" Puerta gave as good as he received from "Zorrita", who was forced to go the full distance to win on scores of 98-91, 97-91 and 96-93.
Each landed punch of Soto generated blood spatter on the judges, commissioners and the general public sitting at ringside, which came from the left eyebrow of the Guasaven fighter who endured the full ten rounds in a duel agreed upon at the super lightweight division.
It was Soto's second fight of the year, after stopping Joel Juarez in two rounds in May.
Soto has been quite in active as of late. He fought once in 2015, once in 2016, and had no fights in 2017. He was scheduled to face Josh Taylor in March of this year, but he withdrew with injury.
