Humberto Soto is looking to match the boxing records set by fellow Mexicans Erik Morales and Julio Cesar Chavez. Soto wants to win his third WBC title in his third weight division. Morales and Chavez are the only two Mexican fighters to pick up three major WBC belts in three weight divisions.
Soto (50-7-2, 32 KOs), winner of belts at 126 and 130, will get his chance to grab the WBC lightweight title on March 13 in Texas against former champion David Diaz (35-2-1, 17 KOs). The champion Edwin Valero is injured and moving up to the junior welterweight division. The fight will be part of the pay-per-view undercard to Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey.
"I am very motivated because only great fighters have won three or more WBC belts," Soto said.
