Former three-division champion Humberto Soto (65-8-2, 35KOs) has had a very rough 2015. He was scheduled to face prospect Frankie Gomez in May but Gomez didn't come close to making weight and the fight was scratched. He was then scheduled to face Raymundo Beltran in June but Beltran's drug test results from his May 1st bout came up positive for a banned substance. Jose Felix Jr. was ready to step in for Beltran but Soto suffered an injury in his camp which put Soto back on the shelf.
With all of the delays the 35-year-old Soto has been on the shelf since his September 2014 victory over John Molina Jr. in Las Vegas.
Soto is hopeful that everything will go well and that he will actually fight on Saturday but said that he won't count his chickens until they have hatched.
"Training camp has been very good. There was a lot of good energy and harmony. I had great sparring and I am in good shape.
"I am very grateful to get this opportunity to finally fight but I really won't know until the weigh in if I am going to fight or not. I am professional and have done my part. I will be ready to go and hopefully the fight takes place," Soto stated.
With 75 pro bouts under his belt, Soto has over three times more experience than his soon to be 28-year-old opponent. He said that he plans on using his experience to his advantage.
"I worked really hard in this camp. Experience is a big key and I plan on using my experience in the ring. That could play a big factor in the fight," Soto told BoxingScene.com.
