Former world champion Hugo”Cuatito” Ruiz (35-3, 31KOs) is plotting for revenge. The fighter is training hard in Guadalajara for his redemption rematch against WBC super bantamweight champion, Julio "Pollito" Ceja (30-1, 27KOs).
The two fighters collided last August in one of the best fights of the year. There was action from bell to bell on the Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares undercard at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Ruiz started well and victory seemed to be in reach when he badly hurt Ceja and sent him down in the third round. Things did not go as expected when Ceja returned the favor in the fifth, dropping Ruiz in the fight and finishing him off for a TKO victory.
The rematch is being positioned for February 27th as part of the Leo Santa Cruz vs. Kiko Martinez rematch at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
Ruiz, who was a WBA interim-world champion as bantamweight, is busy preparing in the mountains with his team led by his brother Heriberto.
When they fought, the belt was for the WBC interim crown, but Ceja became the full champion when Santa Cruz announced that he was leaving his title behind to campaign as the WBA champion at the featherweight limit of 126-pounds.
“A lot of people have said to me that I was winning the fight until that punch came which sent me into the canvas. There are absolutely no excuses as I didn’t fulfill my final goal. Fortunately, life has give me a precious second chance and I will take it. This time I will beat him and I will capture the WBC super bantamweight title," Ruiz said.
