Hugo Cazares, who holds the super flyweight championship of the World Boxing Association (WBA), is preparing to fly over to Japan in order to get adjusted to the climate and time difference for his scheduled title defense against Tomonobu Shimizu, which takes place in Nippon on August 31. Cazares will be making the fifth defense of his title.
Cazares will be traveling from Los Mochis to Tijuana, where the boxer will board a plane that will take him to Tokyo, along with its team led by trainer Manuel "Cochul" Montiel. Cazares has a record of 35-6-2 with 25 knockouts, while Shimizu is 18-3-1 with 9 knockouts. Shimizu has four consecutive wins by knockout.
Cazares was crowned for the first time in 2005 when he dethroned Puerto Rican Nelson Dieppa. From there he made six defenses, and lost the belt to Ivan Calderon in 2007. In 2010, Hugo returned to being a world champion when he captured the crown from Japan's Nobuo Nashiro in Osaka.
