A WBO cruiserweight title fight between Marco Huck and challenger Denis Lebedev could be the first match of the Cruiserweight Super Six tournament. Per Ake Persson broke the news this weekend on BoxingScene.com that IBF champion Steve Cunningham, WBC champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, Huck, Lebedev, perhaps Yoan Pablo Hernandez and possibly another champion would make up the tournament.
Wilfried Sauerland, owner of promotional company Sauerland Event, is putting together the tournament and said Huck will lead off on December 4 or December 18.
Sauerland CEO Chris Meyer tells Alexander Pavlov that he will do everything possible to stage Huck vs. Lebedev before the end of the year.
"The fight between Huck and Lebedev will be held in the next 3 to 5 months. This is a very good match. Lebedev can not be underestimated, but Huck can not be easily defeated because he has a steel chin and a strong will," Meyer said.
