According to Russian promoter Vladimir "красивый" Hryunov, he will travel to Las Vegas to have a meeting with UFC President Dana White to discuss the possibility of staging a cross-sport battle between 44-year-old former champion Roy Jones Jr. (57-8, 40KOs) and former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (33-5 in MMA, 16-1 in the UFC), 38-years-old.
A few months ago, Chris Weidman (10-0) knocked out Silva in the second round, snapping Silva's near seven year undefeated run and 16-0 streak in the UFC. Their rematch is scheduled to take place this coming Saturday.
White has discussed the possibility of staging a UFC event in Russia, and Jones has now fought in Russia twice under Hryunov's banner. Hryunov wants to help White stage a UFC event in Russia with Jones vs. Silva as the main event.
"White has long voiced his desire to organize an event in Russia. At the moment, several Russians are fighting in the UFC, and some of them I'm sure can get very far and even become champions. I very much look forward to meeting with White. The UFC events are held in a cage, and Jones and Silva will be staged under the rules of professional boxing. Therefore, they need a ring. This fight will create an enormous amount of interest around the world. And I would very much like [to have this fight] in Russia or in my country of Kazakhstan," Hryunov said.
