According to multiple reports in Japan and Mexico, there are negotiations taking place for an April unification bout between WBC bantamweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa (28-2, 12KOs) and WBO champion Fernando Montiel (40-2, 30KOs). Montiel is due to fight WBO-interim champion Eric Morel but the santioning body may permit a unification bout to move ahead of that.
In one of the more interesting bits of info on the fight, the Japanese Boxing Commission does not recognize the WBO but they will allow the fight to take place. Basically, if Hasegawa wins the fight then the WBO title will either be vacant or Morel will become the full champion. If Montiel wins then he keeps both titles.
