Hosea Burton has been forced out of his next fight.
The Newcastle-born light heavyweight, (14-0, 5 KOs), had been set for action on Saturday at the Manchester Arena, live on Sky Sports.
Burton, who trains under the tutelage of Joe Gallagher, was due to face Tony Hill from Southampton for the vacant WBA International title on November 21 as part of the undercard supporting Anthony Crolla’s world title rematch against WBA lightweight champion Darleys Pérez of Colombia.
But ‘The Hammer’, 27, damaged a rib in training last week and has been left with no option but to withdraw from the fight against the 29-year-old southpaw (13-3-1, 6 KOs).
“He damaged the rib on Friday,” BoxingScene were advised by promoter Eddie Hearn.
“I didn’t know about it. [Trainer] Joe [Gallagher] took him to physio and hoped he’d be okay, but they tested it out yesterday and it was no good.
“He’s trained for six months for the fight and he’s absolutely gutted, but he’s out and hopefully he’ll be back early in the new year.”
