Manager Cameron Dunkin has advised BoxingScene.com that welterweight contender Demetrius Hopkins (30-1, 11KOs) would like a crack at unbeaten WBC champion Andre Berto (26-0, 20KOs). Hopkins returned to action on Friday at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Canada. He picked up a one-sided ten round decision over Mike Arnaoutis.
"Demetrius would like to fight Andre Berto next. He really wants that fight," Dunkin told BoxingScene.com.
Berto saw action in April, stopping former champion Carlos Quintana in eight rounds. Promoter Lou DiBella wants to bring Berto back in the fall. The options for Berto are a little dry at the moment. Demetrius, because of his famous uncle Bernard Hopkins, is more well known than some of the other possible candidates at the weight. But, it all comes down to whether or not HBO would approve Hopkins as an opponent.
