It's being reported that four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, fresh off a two-round destruction of journeyman Jeremy Bates, is already making plans to return in November.
Apparently Holyfield is trying to put a fight together against Sinan Samil Sam of Turkey, a fighter who is far from a stiff. Sam is ranked fifth in the WBC ratings, and Holyfield hopes a win will land him a title shot in 2007. The bout will not be held in the United States according to Holyfield's handlers. A formal announcement is expected next week.
"I look at this as the first step. The next step is the major step," said Holyfield
Sam is a major step up in class for Holyfield, only losing three times in his career, all by decision. The losses were to Juan Carlos Gomez, Oleg Maskaev and Luan Krasniqi. On the other hand, Sam has knocked out Danny Williams, Przemyslaw Saleta, Julius Francis, and decisioned former Olympian Lawrence Clay Bey.
