Evander Holyfield has told the media in Atlanta that all he wants is one more shot at a world title. Holyfield told reporters that if he fights for a world title and loses, he will walk away from Boxing. He plans a full legal battle in order to reverse the medical suspenion set by the New York State Athletic Commission which would block him from fighting anywhere in the United States. Holyfield said that he was getting very bad back spasms from the second round on of his bout with Larry Donald and the spasms made it very difficult for him to perform.
"I'm not going to let somebody turn up the heat on me, throw daggers at me and get up and run. I'm not running. I will do everything within me to have my rights to fight. They are not going to take away any of my rights and think I'm not going to fight back. I have the right to say how I'm going to end my career." said Holyfield
"It's kind of embarrassing to think about all the people who fight, and here they build something against me like I'm doing something wrong. They say I'm not capable of making a decision for myself. I don't want anybody to count me out. It's not like I'm trying to go another five or 10 years. Just get me a title shot, and if I lose, I'll go about my business."
"How do you give a medical test for poor performance? It is simply the wrong way for Evander to go out, being forced out. I'll support his fight. What happens after that is his decision." Holyfield's manager Alex Krys
Holyfield promoter Don King plans to stand with Evander during his fight with the NYSAC.
"I love Evander and support him in whatever he wants to do." said King
Marc Ratner, Executive Director of Nevada's Athletic Commission called the suspension ruling by the NYSAC "unusual".
"We're going to let it play out. He can't fight here until he clears up the problems in New York." said Ratner
