HOLLYWOOD,Calif. - Former amateur standout Brian Ceballo made his professional debut a successful one, knocking out Luis Longoria (1-1) in the opening round.
After throwing and landing jabs, Ceballo let his hands go, landing a series of right hands to the head.
The amount of punches Ceballo landed drew blood from Longoria's nose, prompting him to tell referee Rudy Barragan that he did not want to continue. Time of the knockout was 2:16.
Anthony Chavez (5-0) kept up his winning ways with a unanimous decision victory over Carlos Apodaca (1-8-2) in a fight that lacked the fireworks that the previous fight produced.
The super bantamweight prospect from nearby San Bernardino was buckled by Apodaca in the first round but came back with a strong second round. He kept peppering his jab in the third and fourth rounds to seal the victory. The final scores were 39-37 on all three cards.
22-year-old middleweight prospect Serhii Bohachuk (7-0) kept his perfect record intact with a third round knockout of local fighter Lucius Johnson (4-3-1). Bohachuk, who trains out of Abel Sanchez’s The Summit Gym in Big Bear, Calif. buckled Johnson badly with a straight right hand and landed several more punches before pushing him to the floor. Johnson sprung to his feet and dropped Bohachuk who was more embarrassed than hurt.
Bohachuk continued his assault in the second round, this time targeting Johnson’s body. The third round was more of the same as the Ukrainian continued to break his opponent down. Johnson stopped throwing punches which forced the referee to stop the fight at the 2:47 mark of the third round.
Bantamweight Jose Casillas won his professional debut, knocking out May Garduno in the third round. Casillas dropped Garduno with a counter right hand to the head. Garduno (0-2) struggled to get up, prompting his corner to throw in the towel. Referee Jack Reiss waved the fight over at 1:54.
Junior featherweight Luis Rosales (7-1-1, 3 KOs) won a one-sided six round decision over Guadalupe Arroyo. Rosales worked from the center of the ring, walking Arroyo (3-11) down and raining punches down on him. All three judges scored the bout 60-54 in favor of Rosales.
In the opening bout of the 360 Promotions card, junior welterweight Mike Melikyan won a four round split decision over Alfredo Hernandez. Both fighters had their moments, but Melikyan (2-2-1) landed the more telling blows. Hernandez (3-2, 2 KOs) was the aggressor during most of the fight, but Melikyan countered him effectively. One judge scored the bout 39-37 for Hernandez, but the other two judges scored the bout 40-36 and 39-37 for Melikyan.
