At the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, Isaac Hlatshwayo (29-1-1, 10 KOs) won a close twelve-round split decision over Delvin Rodriguez (24-3-2, 14 KOs) to capture the vacant IBF welterweight title. The scores were 116-113 and 116-112 for Hlatshwayo, and 115-113 for Rodriguez.
Ringside observers were split on the winner as the two boxers fought at an active pace with neither stepping back. The met previously last November and fought to a draw. The title was put in play after Joshua Clottey was forced to vacate the title for a fight with WBO champ Miguel Cotto.
