Darlington’s Neil Hepper has grabbed the chance of a lifetime and is determined to cause a huge upset by derailing Olympian Luke Campbell’s pro career when the pair clash at the London O2 Arena on October 5.
Hull’s Campbell, a gold medallist at the London 2012 Games, took just 88 seconds to beat Andy Harris on his July debut, but Hepper remains undaunted. The 25-year-old, who picked up his fifth win less than two weeks ago, feels super fit and knows an unexpected win would launch his career.
“It’s a great opportunity,” stated Hepper, who has lost twice to Fishburn’s Gary Fox. “I rate him extremely highly and he did our country proud in the Olympics. So I have to have a lot of respect for him, however I can’t show him that respect on fight night.
“I took the fight because I’d just come off a training camp for the recent show in Darlington so was at a decent fitness level anyway, and I just thought ‘now or never’. I think in boxing sometimes you have to take these big fights and take chances.
“I’m the underdog going in and the British public expects to see big things from Luke, so I’m going to go to London to try and spoil the party.”
