Harry Aaron / Most Valuable PromotionsUndefeated junior-lightweight contender Henry Lebron will face Derlyn Hernandez in the main event of a Wynn Records Network broadcast (8 p.m. ET) on Saturday, September 26, at Pedrín Zorrilla Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The IBF No. 5-, WBO No. 12- and WBA No. 14-ranked Lebron, 21-0 (11 KOs), of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, will challenge for the WBO Global championship held by Hernandez, 14-5-1 (12 KOs), of San Juan, Puerto Rico, via Monte Plata, Dominican Republic, over 10 rounds on an event promoted by Universal Promotions and Salita Promotions in association with Wynn Records.
Plagued by inactivity, 28-year-old “Moncho” Lebron has fought just one time in nearly two years, a seventh-round stoppage of Texas veteran Juan Tapia in January.
Previously, Lebron took the undefeated 0 from capable contender William Foster III and followed it up with an IBF Latino and WBO NABO junior-lightweight-title winning unanimous decision over Christopher Diaz-Velez in late 2024. In his nine-year career, Lebron has also held the WBO Latino junior-lightweight title.
“This is the beginning of a new chapter in my professional career,” Lebron said. “I’m confident… I’m going to become world champion. First, we have a major test against Derlyn Hernandez, but we know this will simply be the first step on our journey to the top of the boxing world.”
In March of this year, 32-year-old “El Coyote” Hernandez got his career back on track after losing four of five to top-quality opponents by scoring a highlight-reel knockout over nephew of the all-time-great Miguel Cotto, and previously undefeated, Abisael Cotto to win his WBO Global belt.
“I’m happy to have the opportunity to defend my WBO Global championship,” Hernandez said. “I know the tough opponent I’m facing, and I’m prepared for whatever he brings. I’ll step into the ring as champion and leave as champion. Get ready for a war.”
