Some Bad luck for Robert Helenius. The unbeaten European heavyweight champion, 28-years-old, will undergo shoulder surgery in Heidelberg next week. Helenius has been having problems with his right shoulder for some time. He tried alternative treatments, which didn't work, and now surgery is the only option.
"We had hoped to take care of the injury without surgery, but unfortunately it has become necessary now,” Helenius said. “I will give the shoulder enough time to heal and then I will come back in style.”
Helenius is expected to return after the summer break. In his last fight in December, he won a twelve round decision over a much tougher than expected Dereck Chisora in Helsinki´s Hartwall Arena. A sold-out crowd of 13,000 were packed inside the venue to witness Helenius winning the vacant European heavyweight title.
“We wish Robert a speedy recovery,” said Chris Meyer, the General Manager of Team Sauerland. “We will give him the time he needs to be fully fit.”
