Hector Camacho Jr. (47-3, 27KOs) is looking to avenge the honor of his family by landing a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (38-0, 29KOs). Chavez Sr. dominated Camacho Sr. in their heavily hyped bout back in 1992. Camacho returns on Saturday in against journeyman Sammy Sparkman (20-17, 9KOs). Sparkman has lost to a who's who of current top stars.
"I expect to have a good fight. I know that I lost a lot of time by wasting it on the streets, but that remains in the past and now I've come back to restore my name," Camacho told Primera Hora.
A Camacho vs. Chavez bout has been talked about in the past. The biggest problem some see is Camacho getting down in weight. Camacho has struggled with weight over the last few years and has not fought at junior middleweight, where Chavez Jr. campaigns, since 2006. Most of his fights have been contested between middleweight and light heavyweight. Still, Camacho would like to get that fight by April. I'm not sure if April is obtainable, since Chavez is tentatively scheduled to fight Carlos Nascimento (21-1, 18KOs) on March 7 in Mexico.
"There is too much money in that fight for it not to happen. It would be revenge for my father, for me and for Puerto Rico. Right now boxing needs a fight like Camacho vs. Chavez Jr. to give it a boost," Camacho said.
