Promoter Eddie Hearn is fully focused on having Dillian Whyte vs. Alexander Povetkin come off as planned, in July, behind closed doors.

As BoxingScene.com previously reported, the British Boxing Board of Control is looking at the month of July as the starting point to bring back boxing in the UK.

Whyte vs. Povetkin is scheduled for July 4, after initially being scheduled for May 2 in Manchester. The event was pushed back due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The thought of closed door events have been pushed upon mid-level cards, which Hearn wants to show is not true with Whyte-Povetkin.

The date is likely going to move to give Hearn more time to put the details together, with Katie Taylor's undisputed lightweight title fight against Amanda Serrano in the co-feature.

"A lot of people think it is difficult for bigger fights to happen behind closed doors," Hearn told The Boxing Show on Sky Sports.

"Whyte vs Povetkin is one of the fights we are planning to stage in the early part of the return, it will be take place behind closed doors.

"Dillian wasn't joking about fighting in a car park - it won't be in a car park! I don't know how we're going to do it yet. But we have to come back with a bang. Whyte vs Povetkin, along with Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano, is a fight that I believe we will see at the end of July or early-August."

Whyte is the WBC's interim champion, which makes him the mandatory challenger to the upcoming trilogy fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. The WBC issued an order that Whyte must get his title crack by February 2021. Those plans could be switched around if Povetkin, a former champion and Olympic gold medal winner, pulls off the upset.
