Eddie Hearn of Matchroom tonight told Sky Sports that WBA bantamweight titlist Jamie McDonnell, 24-2-1 (11), will fight Tomoki Kameda, 30-0 (19), should the Japanese WBO title-holder successfully defend his title against Alejandro Hernandez in Chicago on Saturday night and McDonnell come through his next fight.
McDonnell, 28, defends his title against Colombia's Walberto Ramos in Liverpool on the 22nd of November, a win will secure the Doncaster-based boxer a unification fight against his 23-year-old rival.
"Terms have been agreed for him to fight Kameda," he said during an appearance on Ringside. "Kameda fights this weekend, so if Jamie can beat Ramo he'll fight Kameda in a unification in his next fight."
McDonnell picked up the vacant IBF title by out-pointing Julio Ceja in May 2013. A dispute with former handler Dennis Hobson meant that he could not fulfill his mandatory obligations against Vusi Malinga, which led to Hobson guiding Stuart Hall to a memorable win for the vacant belt.
However, a switch to Matchroom yielded a WBA title shot. McDonnell posted a TKO 10 win over Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat in May to become champion once again and will hope to add another belt to his collection should he get past Ramos.
