Eddie Hearn, promoter for former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, has read the recent statements from Dillian Whyte - and a result will be sending an official contract to Whyte by day's end.

Hearn is trying to stage a rematch between Joshua and Whyte for August 12th in the UK.

According to Hearn, he sent over an official offer and Whyte's handlers found the numbers to be "unacceptable."

The veteran promoter began to quickly explore alternative options for his boxer.

However, Whyte would explain in several interviews that he never rejected the fight or made any type of demands.

"They’re talking rubbish. I haven’t turned down the fight.  All I got, after Eddie talked publicly and often about making me an offer to fight AJ, was a very short email late in the evening on Friday 2 June," Whyte told Wally Downes of The Sun.

"I absolutely 100 percent want to fight AJ and called Eddie to discuss the offer but couldn’t get hold of him. I messaged him too. I didn’t hear back from him so I sent him an email to confirm I wanted the fight. I didn’t turn down the offer or propose a counter-offer.  All I did was ask normal questions on his three-line email so-called offer.

"Even before I emailed, Eddie was already saying publicly that his offer was unacceptable. So, why make it in the first place? It is out of order to use me to boost AJ’s value in negotiations for the Wilder fight, without any intention to fight me. Heavyweight boxing is in an absolute mess at the moment and bullsh!t like this doesn’t help."

In response to those claims, Hearn immediately reached out to Whyte's handlers to confirm their acceptance of the rematch.

At the same time, Hearn is sticking to his guns that his initial approach was rejected by Whyte's team.

“They say no contact has been made but they’re happy to accept the offer, so they’ve obviously received the offer. Obviously what’s happened is that that’s the fight I was asked to make," Hearn told Boxing Social.

“We made an offer to Dillian Whyte four or five weeks ago and they came back and the exact wording was ‘absolutely not, this is unacceptably low’ and basically nowhere near a number that they’d accept. I funneled that back to AJ and the team and we said, ‘okay, we’ll move onto another opponent’. That was it.

“Now they come out today out of the blue and say ‘we accept that offer’, right when we’re about to announce or are in final negotiations with another opponent. We went straight back to Dillian and said ‘can you confirm that you accept that offer’ and they said ‘yes, we do’ and I said ‘fantastic’, so we’re getting them a contract.

“They’ll have a contract today, we need to move at pace but if they’re serious that fight can 100 percent happen. It’s still the fight that AJ wants for August 12th so again, if Dillian is serious, that fight is going to happen."

However, Hearn cautioned that there is very little time remaining, and the deal must be finalized sooner than later in order to make that event a reality.

“This contract is not going to be difficult. It’s a set purse, there’s no travel or obscene media obligations – he’s going to have to attend the press conference and get whatever tickets he wants and things like that, but it’s pretty simple," Hearn said.

“We don’t want to come back with a million things on the contract. We do have to move at pace because it’s seven weeks on Saturday, but I’d love that fight to happen and hopefully they’re real.”
