Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom is not ruling out the idea of a WBC eliminator between heavyweights Dillian Whyte and Luis Ortiz.

BoxingScene.com recently reported that Epic Sports and Entertainment won an IBF mandated purse bid, to stage a final eliminator between Whyte and Kubrat Pulev. The unexpected promotional player was able to outbid Hearn (representing Whyte) and Team Sauerland (repping Pulev).

Epic Sports intends to give Pulev the home ground advantage by staging the event in Bulgaria.

However, the winning purse bid was $1,500,111 - and Whyte is only getting 25% of that take, while Pulev receives 75%.

Between the IBF's mandated split of the purse, and the contest taking place in Pulev's backyard, Whyte and Hearn may very well explore the amount of compensation involved in facing Ortiz - and where that contest would take place.

But there is a big sticking point - Whyte would only face Ortiz if the WBC would sanction the contest as a "final" mandatory eliminator. At the moment, their bout is a "secondary" final eliminator - which means the winner would fall behind the current mandatory challenger, Dominic Breazeale.

Ortiz suffered his first career defeat back in March, when he was stopped in the tenth round by WBC world champion Deontay Wilder. Prior to being stopped, Ortiz had Wilder in serious trouble in the seventh round.

"Ortiz has done it before of course, and he'd want a lot of money but if we are guaranteed to be the WBC mandatory, not the second mandatory or whatever people have been talking about, Dillian would jump into that fight straight away," said Hearn to Sky Sports.

"He has absolutely no fear about fighting anyone, so Ortiz is a much tougher fight than Pulev but a great fight and one that I think will really capture people's attention.

"Sometimes when you're No1 or No 2 with all governing bodies, these times are the most frustrating because you've got there and then it just doesn't happen overnight. Unless you're an easy fight for someone, you don't get the shots as quick as you'd like and Dillian is definitely not an easy fight for anyone."
