Hearn: Mayweather Won't Go Near Brook - Too Risky!

By Edward Chaykovsky

Promoter Barry Hearn of Matchroom Sports consider IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24KOs) to be the second best, and possibly the best, 147-pound fighter in the world. The only boxer he holds in higher regard is WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs).

Hearn would love to match Brook against Mayweather, but doubts the fight will ever happen. Mayweather returns on September 12th, for what the pound-for-pound king claims will be the final fight of his pro career. The frontrunner to face Mayweather is Brook's domestic rival Amir Khan.

Brook, who easily stopped Frankie Gavin on Saturday night in London, will return on August 29th - possibly against Brandon Rios.

"I think Kell Brook is an amazing fighter. I think outside of Mayweather, he is without doubt the number 2 and maybe the number 1 welterweight in the world," Hearn told Sky Sports. "[Brook] is unbeaten, he's young, and I don't think Mayweather will go near him because he's risky.
