Eddie Hearn could be about to expand his horizons overseas.
The Matchroom chief, who has hosted close to 100 events since beginning his career as a promoter in 2012, is set to announce "an international show," which has been rumoured for some time, in due course.
Hearn told Boxing Scene that there will be a bill, promoted by Matchroom Sport, overseas in the autumn, which he says they “will confirm soon.”
But ‘Scene has done some digging on the situation and understands that the Brentwood-based company will host a show on November 12 in Monaco, at a venue to be confirmed, with it potentially being aired on Sky Sports.
Stephen Smith, the WBC Silver super-featherweight champion who stopped Daniel Eduardo Brizuela in May to win the belt and has a ring record of 24-2 (14 KOs), is believed to be gearing up to feature on the card, while Super WBA champion Rau’Shee Warren (14-1, 4 KOs) looks set to defend against regular trinket holder Jamie McDonnell (28-2-1, 13 KOs) after the pair agreed terms on a clash.
Monaco has been the location of big-time boxing in the past, with South Africa’s Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman putting shows together there on a regular basis, at the Salle des Étoiles, but they have dried up over the course of this year.
Ruslan Provodnikov, the former WBO super-lightweight titlist, was the last fighter to headline at the venue when he beat Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez in four last November.
Gennady Golovkin, the current IBF, IBO, WBA Super and WBC middleweight champion, has also fought there, beating Nobuhiro Ishida, Osumanu Adama and Martin Murray –– all by stoppage –– in middleweight title defences over the course of a 23-month period.
Matthew Hatton and Femi Fehintola appeared in separate contests on a show for which Dennis Hobson and Philippe Fondu teamed up.
Both enjoyed the experience, speaking in glowing terms about it, and British fighters could reap the benefits of such a operations directional change if it is to become a regular thing.
