In a recent interview, Eddie Hearn explained that fellow promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, called him up and tried to persuade him to stop discussing the potential unification between heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Hearn, who represents Joshua, is in deep negotiations with Fury's promoters, Arum and Frank Warren, to finalize a two-fight series for 2021.
The first of their two high profile meetings is being targeted for a date in June.
For the last few weeks, Hearn has been mobbed with questions from the media, who hunger for updates on the ongoing Fury-Joshua negotiations.
“Bob Arum phoned me two nights ago and said look ‘I think you should stop talking about Fury-Joshua,’” Hearn told the Betfred Boxing Show.
“I said ‘Why?’ and he said ‘Well if you do then I’m going to have to talk about it,’ I said ‘But I’m getting asked about it 10 times a day, what do you want me to say?’”
Hearn is hoping to get a deal nailed down before the end of the month.
Last week, he sent a over a draft of contract to Arum - and the two sides are working out the terms.
Once the terms have been agreed upon, both teams will begin the process of finalizing a site to host the event.
“The truth is we’ve sent a contract to Bob Arum and Top Rank, they have come back with their points which are quite minimal and we are working through them,” Hearn said.
“I mean, I keep saying ‘two weeks’ so I’ll stay safe and say two weeks, but our plan is to get this fight announced, to let the public know that both guys have signed for this fight, and then we will go out and talk to the relevant sites and countries where we have had approaches for, [before we confirm] the official site and the date. So that will be the process and hopefully you will get that first announced, done and dusted, in the next two weeks.”
