HBO Sports Executive Vice President Peter Nelson is not concerned with the recent departures of several Top Rank fighters from his network's airwaves.
Last week, Top Rank officially revealed the details of their long-term plan to finalize a long-term television deal with ESPN, which is going to provide their stable with a bigger platform than HBO.
The first fight of that deal takes place on Saturday night [Sunday in Australia], when WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will defend his title against Jeff Horn before a crowd of 50,000 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
Last night, Top Rank announced two more dates as part of their new partnership with ESPN.
WBO junior lightweight titlist Vasyl Lomachenko will fight Miguel Marriaga on August 5th, and WBO/WBC junior welterweight champ Terence Crawford will face WBA, IBF, IBO champion Julius Indongo in a five belt unification on August 19.
HBO invested a lot of time and money into Pacquiao, Lomachenko and Crawford - but they are not worried about the recent run of Top Rank stars jumping away.
"Our fight lineup includes an array of 50-50 competitive fights, culminating with the best fight of 2017 in Canelo Alvarez versus Gennady Golovkin on September 16," Nelson told ESPN.
"We, however, cannot show every fight, though we remain fans of Terence and Vasyl, and proud of what we did for their careers together with Top Rank. We wish them the best."
As the months play out, several other fighters under Top Rank are expected to appear on ESPN dates. Hot prospect Michael Conlan will get showcased as part of the Pacquiao-Horn undercard.
HBO will continue forward by working closely with Golden Boy Promotions, Main Events, Roc Nation, K2 Promotions, and several others. Holding the largest stable in the sport is Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions - but the majority of Haymon's fighters are almost exclusively showcased by HBO's main rival, Showtime.
