Dean Powell, the matchmaker for Frank Warren Promotions, has told BoxingScene that rumours of a meeting between Frankie Gavin and Ronnie Heffron on the undercard of David Haye versus Dereck Chisora are just that at the moment.  Powell also confirmed that further details of the July 14 Upton Park bill will be announced at a press conference in London on Tuesday.

Gavin, 13-0 (10), and Heffron, 9-0 (5), used to train together under Anthony “Arnie” Farnell at the coach’s Manchester gym before Gavin rejoined his old amateur team in Birmingham.  Indeed, Gavin used to be in a relationship with Emma Heffron, the sister of Ronnie and fellow pro Mark Heffron, but the Birmingham-based fighter is a professional and would put old ties to one side for the night should he have to face Heffron for the sake of business.

Heffron had been due to face Liam Smith in a British welterweight title eliminator on May 18 only to suffer a hand injury that placed the contest on the backburner.  The 21-year-old, Oldham-based boxer has looked a solid professional during his nine bouts and would present Gavin, 26, with a stiff test as the 2007 World Amateur Championship winner bids to get back on track after a stop-start 2011.
