Former two-division world champion David Haye (28-2, 26KOs), 35-years-old, is still putting together his next fight for the fall, which is likely going to come against former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (60-6-1, 53KOs).
Haye snapped more than three years of inactivity earlier this year, and has since fought twice in 2016 with easy knockout victories over Mark de Mori and Arnold Gjergjaj.
While Briggs is scheduled to be the next opponent, Haye has yet to confirm any of the details.
“I’m working on this next fight. "I want it to be a substantial fight, a fight that gets people excited. It’s a good time to be in the heavyweight division in the UK. You’ve got Anthony Joshua, who has a world title, Tyson Fury as well. It’s a real healthy environment for heavyweight boxing at the moment. We’re spoilt for choice. Lennox Lewis was the only British heavyweight champion at the time he was champion, so was Frank Bruno,” Haye told The Mirror.
Haye is hoping to become a world champion by next year and he's not very selective on which beltholder he intends to target. His pickings on home soil are a lot easier to secure as long as Joshua and Fury hold four world titles between them.
“Now we’ve got two current heavyweight champions, possibly three, if I can get a world title fight. It’s a situation that’s never happened before. I believe within a year I’ll have a version of a title, whether that’s against Anthony Joshua, against the winner of Tyson Fury’s rematch against Wladimir Klitschko, or against Deontay Wilder. I’m focusing on the British side of things at the moment, but in boxing, anything can happen," Haye said.
