Former champion David Haye is disputing the published comments from Bernd Boente, manager of WBC heavyweight beltholder Vitali Klitschko. In a recent interview on BoxingScene.com, Boente lashed out at Haye and claimed the British boxer is demanding a "very high financial guarantee" for a possible clash in the next few months.
Later tonight, Klitschko defends the title against Haye's countryman, Dereck Chisora - but Haye appears to be disgusted with the match.
"Vitali Klitschko can knock this guy out in 20 seconds. Chisora lost a fight for the British championship. He lost a fight for the European championship. Why does he get a chance at the world title?," Haye questioned to Russia Today.
According to Haye, he agreed to Vitali's contract terms in December, which includes the money and various clauses for a potential fight on June 2. He claims Team Klitschko came back and withdrew the contract - because RTL, a cable network in Germany, allegedly cut the amount of money they were initially offering to purchase the fight.
"I already agreed to all of the details in December and accepted all of their rematch clauses. Another slave contract regardless. I am now the challenger. Since then I'm waiting for a contract. Instead, here comes the cancellation - on the grounds that RTL had cut the money. He promised to knock me out, but he'll never be able to do it. I'm much too fast. Perhaps, maybe he's afraid of losing his credibility as an athlete and as a politician," Haye said.
"This is why he prefers boxing someone like Chisora. He can make him last for seven or eight rounds until RTL has sold all of their advertising."
