The World Boxing Council approved Saul Alvarez vs. Matthew Hatton for the vacant WBC Superwelterweight world title after having received two thirds of the WBC Board of Governors voting.
Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO´s) has been champion of the BBB of C (British Boxing Board of Control) and has made three defenses of his EBU (European Boxing Union) championship, whereas Mexican fighter, Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO´s) holds the WBC Silver world title of the Super welterweight division, reason for which he is the official challenger.
The WBC found that five of the top six ranked fighters in the division had different problems and were not available to fight, in addition to considering by absolute majority that Hatton is a highly worthy boxer.
