A planned championship doubleheader could take place in Mexico. Akihiko Honda, president of Teiken Promotions, is planning a big doubleheader event for February. The main event would see WBC featherweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa (29-3, 12KOs) make the first defense of his title against mandatory challenger Jhonny Gonzalez (47-7, 41KOs) of Mexico. The co-feature would have Juan Carlos Salgado (22-1, 16KOs) challenge WBC super featherweight champion Takahiro Aoh.

Honda wants to have the event in Japan, but the promoter of Gonzalez, Oswaldo Kuchle of Village Promotions, is going to make a strong offer to Honda. Kuchle wants to have the doubleheader in Arena Mexico. He feels that two bouts could fill the entire venue.
