Philadelphia's Henry "Hammerin' Hank" Lundy (18-0 10 KOs) is scheduled to take on John Molina Jr. (20-1 16 KOs) of Covina, California on July 9th in a defense of his WBO NABO lightweight title in a bout that will be broadcasted by ESPN. This highly anticipated showdown between two of the lightweight division's brightest prospects takes place at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island. The ever confident Lundy talks to BoxingScene about how his versatility and boxing ability will be too much for Molina, whom he views as a one dimensional fighter. Lundy also talks about what winning this high profile fight will do for his career and more in this exclusive interview.
BoxingScene.com: Give us your thoughts on your big fight coming up with John Molina that is being televised by ESPN.
Hank Lundy: Well I know John Molina is going to be coming straight forward and I know I am going to be able to dominate him on the boxing side. I think he is going to be surprised that I can punch and that he isn't going to be the only puncher in the ring.
BoxingScene.com: Have you done anything specifically in training to get ready for his straight forward style?
Hank Lundy: We have just been training hard and harder because you know what, it is easy to win a world title (WBO NABO lightweight title) and it is hard to keep it. We just picked up our training and our work out plan and we have just been going hard. We are sparring hard and we are ready. We are ready to put on a show and shock the world.
BoxingScene.com: Have you seen any of Molina's fights?
Hank Lundy: I watched a couple of his fights. Mainly John Molina has fought nobody. The last guy (Martin Honorio) he fought, I think he was 25-11 or something like that, was a featherweight who went up and beat him. That fight was on Shobox and it exposed him. I know what I have to do to him.
BoxingScene.com: The last time we spoke was just before your last fight, a dominating decision win over Tyrese Hendrix. How do you rate your performance in that fight?
Hank Lundy: I told everybody that I was going to dominate Tyrese and what they said was that Tyrese is this and that and that he is coming to fight. Me and my camp knew what we had in front of us and like I tell you if you don't have confidence in this game there is no need for you to box.
BoxingScene.com: Besides retaining your belt what do you think a win over John Molina does for your career? He would be the biggest name on your resume.
Hank Lundy: It should catapult me to HBO because once again I put my undefeated record on the line and I put my title on the line and I am fighting another guy who is up there and is a rated fighter and is a prospect just like me. If you are a prospect and you think you are hot, I am coming for you.
BoxingScene.com: What do you think we see in next week's fight between Andre Ward and Allan Green?
Hank Lundy: I put it like this, I like Andre Ward from the boxing level but Allan Green can punch. A puncher always has a chance but I tell you what John Molina is not the puncher that you think he is. He ain't got no chance in this fight.
BoxingScene.com: By not having a chance does that mean you are not going to stand and go toe to toe where you might get out of position and get caught and that you plan on boxing and moving?
Hank Lundy: I am going to put it like this, excuse my language but I got a special ass whoopin' for John Molina. He is lucky I can't Fedex it to him because I want to give it to him personally. I have a special ass whoopin' for him.
BoxingScene.com: Do you have a prediction for the Ward-Green fight?
Hank Lundy: I am leaning towards Ward. I like Green. I have met him a couple of times and he is a good friend but I am looking for that speed to dominate. Speed kills.
BoxingScene.com: Do you think your speed is going to be one of the main differences in your fight with Molina?
Hank Lundy: Speed kills but you also have to realize I can move, I can punch, I can fight on the inside. See I am a well rounded fighter. John Molina is one dimensional. He comes straight forward and he can bang and that is it. He takes too many punches and one thing about me you see, you can't take too many punches from The Hammer because I have dynamite in my gloves. They don't call me Hammerin' Hank for nothing.
BoxingScene.com: What are the fans going to see on July 9th on ESPN?
Hank Lundy: When you see Hammerin' Hank on July 9th on ESPN in the main event you are going to see a Hammerin' Hank that you have never seen before. You will see a Hammerin' Hank that is slipping shots and not taking none. I am being stingy in this fight. I am not giving up anything. You are going to see a dominating performance. I am going to show my boxing skills and every chance I get to cracking you are going to see it. I am going to put on a show like I always do. This time I am being stingy and I ain't giving up nothing. Christmas ain't here yet so I ain't giving up no presents.
