Scotland’s Nathaniel Collins has spoken of his disappointment after leaving the Braehead Arena in Glasgow with just a draw against European featherweight champion Cristobal Lorente.
Collins appeared to have done enough in a close and competitive fight, particularly after his good early work, but the Spaniard came on strong and shared the spoils.
In the ring after the fight, Lorente said he was open to a return. Collins is now 17-0-1 (8 KOs) and the WBC’s No. 1 contender who was on the verge of being in a position to box the winner of the upcoming bout between Stephen Fulton and O’Shaquie Foster.
But a crestfallen Collins confirmed he would like a rematch with the 20-0-3 (8 KOs) Lorente.
“Just leaving the venue, troops,” Collins said on a social media post. “Had to do drug testing and all sorts. I’ve got a lot of messages to get back to but thank you so much, every single person, that’s took time to message me, everybody that came to the fight, everybody that tuned in. I’m a winner and I’m gutted and to me a draw is just as bad as a loss and, you know what, I hope we can run it back, in Glasgow again, and bring another big night back. “But I’m absolutely gutted. Thank you so much everyone for the support.”
