Jesus Antonio Gutierrez is a man on a mission. The boxer has promised to do all in his power to prevent Gabriel Rosado from reaching a lucrative fight with former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Gutierrez will face Rosado on June 4th in California, with Rosado heavily mentioned as Chavez's next opponent for a date in late July or early August.
Gutierrez, who trains with Fernando Fernandez and Mexican legend Erik Morales in Tijuana, is a solid prospect with a record of 20-1-1, 9 KOs, and he knows that beating Philadelphia fighter will increase his status at the middleweight level.
He feels Rosado is overlooking him and talking more about the potential showdown with Chavez Jr. in the coming months. Gutierrez views all of that as an added advantage.
"The truth is Rosado has been talking more about the fight with Chavez than he has about me, and that's his problem. I'm training very well. I'm not worried about my fight, that's his problem. You can say that it's an advantage in my favor because fights must be won, in boxing there is nothing written and you can not take anything for granted," said Gutierrez to ESPN Deportes.
"The truth is we are doing a great camp. I am very motivated, my team has taught me a lot, woke up the hunger to transcend this sport and also to take this opportunity. Gabriel Rosado is a known individual and it would be a great step to beat him to get to the big leagues. I know that I have to win."
"[My first] defeat came at a good time, as every defeat always teaches us. We modify technical things, before and after fights, what to eat. My discipline has very much improved since then, because that was a painful defeat."
