BoxingScene.com ran a recent article in which WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan said that he had no interest facing IBF junior welterweight champion Zab Judah. He said that he wasn't interested because Judah is a "runner" just like his last opponent Paul McCloskey. The article can be found here.
In the article, Khan mentions that he would rather face WBA/WBO lightweight interm champion Robert Guerrero who has previously expressed his interest in moving up in weight to challenger for a world title in a 4th weight class.
BoxingScene.com reached out to the Gilroy, CA native to get his reaction on Khan's statement that he would rather fight Guerrero than Judah.
Guerrero was delighted to hear the news and said, “It’s about time someone steps up and mentions my name. I personally feel Amir Khan is one of the best fighters in the world pound for pound and a fight with him would be tremendous for the fans."
Khan has an HBO date of July 23rd on hold for his next fight. Las Vegas has been mentioned as a leading contender to host the fight.
Guerrero is coming off an exciting victory over Michael Katsidis that took place in Las Vegas in April on the Erik Morales-Marcos Maidana televised pay-per-view undercard.
Guerrero has unsuccessfully campaigned to fight Juan Manuel Marquez and other big names in both lightweight and junior welterweight division. A fight with Khan would be the type of career defining fight that the 3 division champion has yearned for.
"I’ve been ducked by everyone. Marquez, Morales, Maidana. None of these guys want to fight me. I take my hat off to Amir Khan if he’s willing to step in the ring with me.”
