Robert Guerrero knows there's no shame in losing to the pound-for-pound king.
In fact, he gained valuable experience from the bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May.
"I lost to the best fighter in the world," Guerrero admitted on a media conference call Tuesday. "I learned a lot from that and it lit a fire under me to be better."
Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KOs) will begin his quest to improve at his craft Saturday when he faces Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KOs) in the main event of "Showtime Championship Boxing" at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Even though Guerrero is facing a steep decline in competition, he respects what the Japanese welterweight has to offer.
"Kamegai comes to win and win in impressive fashion," Guerrero said. "You've got to be ready for anything -- that's what I learned from Floyd."
