George Groves and Fedor Chudinov will finally meet with the world title at stake.
The pair have been scheduled to meet for the vacant WBA Super title at super-middleweight ever since Felix Sturm was stripped of it after failing a drugs test.
A number of dates had been rumoured for the fight, but nothing was ever set in stone.
Boxing Scene’s Vadim Pushkin recently reported that the showdown, between former WBC and WBA and IBF title challenger Groves and Russia’s former champion Chudinov, could land on a date next month.
And it was confirmed by Team Sauerland, Groves’ promotional outfit, and the 29-year-old (25-3, 18 KOs) himself on Friday, that he would face Chudinov (14-1, 10 KOs) on a Sky Sports Box Office-aired card.
Groves and Chudinov will square off for the world title at Bramall Lane, the outdoor home of Sheffield United Football Club, on May 27, as part of the undercard to Kell Brook’s IBF welterweight title defence against Errol Spence Jr.
Also on the card, Team GB Olympian Anthony Fowler will make his professional debut after recently inking pro terms with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport, while David Allen will face an opponent to be named for the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title.
