Montell Griffin (48-6) continued his quest to regain his light heavyweight title with a victory over Norman Jones (28-15-3) on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights, held at the Mohegan Sun Hotel and Casino. The judges scored it 119-109, 118-110, 118-110. The fight was very uneventful as heard by the fans when the scores were announced. Griffin captures the USBA Light Heavyweight Title with the win.
In other action, undefeated heavyweight Kevin Johnson won a unanimous eight round decision over Robert Hawkins (21-5). The judges saw it 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73. Johnson improves to 9-0-1 and boasts that he will be fighting for the heavyweight title by his 17th professional fight.
