Adrian Granados is hoping to make history by becoming the first fighter to score a knockout victory over former four division world champion Adrien Broner.
The two boxers are set to collide on February 18 in Cincinnati, Ohio on an Mayweather Promotions event that will air Showtime.
The 27-year-old Mexican-America, who has a record of 18-4-2 and 12 KOs, agrees that he is not favorite the favorite to win, but after sparring with Broner in 2013 - he believes that experience will help him to surprise Broner in the same manner that he achieved when he shocked undefeated Amir Imam with a knockout.
Granados helped prepare Broner his 2013 defense of the WBA welterweight title against Marcos Maidana. Ironically that fight resulted in the first career defeat for Broner, who was dropped twice and lost a twelve round decision to the hard puncher from Argentina.
"Winning would be very good, as it gives me great pride that I'm supporting Mexico... that's why I'm going to prove what I have inside of me, that it's Aztec warrior blood. I'm training hard and getting ready for the victory. I know what's going to happen. If I hurt him I'll try to stop him. I want to be the first to knock out Adrien Broner (32-2, 24 KO's)," Granados told ESPN Deportes.
"The fight will be very hard, Broner is strong, fast, I've been with him in his camp when he lost with Marcos Maidana, I was doing well, I felt he was going to have problems with Maidana and that's what happened. I'm going to win as Adrián Granados. They think he's going to knock me out, but I'm going to keep knocking down the walls they're putting me in front of me."
With a five-fight winning streak, three of them via the knockout, Granados thinks the Broner fight is coming at a good stage in his career.
"This fight comes to me during the best of times. I'm getting to my maturity, I'm a smarter fighter, I'm well prepared, my camp has been good with several sparring players who have helped me well.We are preparing to surprise the boxing world," Granados said.
Granados spent time training in Mexico City with Nacho Beristáin at the Romanza gym.
