Z “The Dream” Gorres, the OPBF super flyweight mandatory challenger is dedicating his quest for the vacant title against former champion Waengpetch Chuwatana of Thailand to the eminent lawyer, former WBC fouding secretary general and PBA Commissioner  Rudy Salud who is recovering from a serious heart ailment.

Salud used to manage the flashy southpaw until sometime last year in a partnership with  respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer but felt that perhaps Gorres would be better off being managed solely by Aldeguer with Salud committed to help in whatever way he could.

On his return from :Las Vegas after an impressive ten round unanimous decision over rugged Mexican Jose Antonio Tirado the first question of Gorres was about the health of Salud even as he wished him a speedy recovery.

Knowing of Salud’s recent setback when he was confined for several days in the Intensive Care Unit of Medical City along Ortigas Avenue Gorres said he would dedicate his quest for the OPBF crown to Salud who had always been a staunch and caring supporter.

Salud was touched by Gorres gesture and told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that in his estimation Gorres was “technically the best boxer in the country today and if he only puts some snap into his punches could well become a world champion.” At the same time Salud said he had a great deal of respect for Aldeguer and was confident Gorres was in good hands.

Earlier, well-known former two division world champion and trainer Buddy McGirt predicted in an interview with Viva Sports that Gorres had what it takes to become a world champion.

The Gorres-Chuwatana title fight in Mandaue City will be telecast on the top-rated weekly boxing show “The Main Event” on Sunday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m. over RPN 9, sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum. Stunningly attractive Rene Summer, the 2006 Tanduay calendar girl and sexy Julia Lopez will act as round girls in the blockbuster fight card.
